Pulmonary & Critical Care Medicine

NMCC is proud to offer more than state-of-the-art cancer care. Pulmonary medicine is a specialty of internal medicine that deals with the diagnosis, treatment, and management of lung infections and diseases.

Appointments are now available with our pulmonary team of Dr. Jeffrey DorfDr. Cory Hicks and Jennifer Vergeer. Our team is here to treat post-COVID symptoms, COPD, smoking cessation, benign lung disease and more, as well as to provide lung cancer screenings.

After obtaining an in-depth medical history form our patient, which includes the review of appropriate previous tests and imaging, the pulmonologist may also order Pulmonary Function Testing (PFT) to further evaluate lung function. This test allows your pulmonologist to evaluate how your lungs function, by assessing how much air a person can inhale and exhale which, if abnormal, may lead to a diagnosed obstructive or restrictive lung disease. Repeat PFT’s allows for the monitoring of specific lung diseases.

After all tests have been received and a diagnosis established, each patient will receive education about their specific lung infection or disease, as well as a discussion about specific drugs and treatment options that best fit their disease and lifestyle. Your NMCC Pulmonologist will work closely with your NMCC oncologists, hematologists, rheumatologists, and primary care providers to coordinate and ensure appropriate care is being received.

If you have persistent cough, shortness of breath, or any other symptoms of possible lung disease, it is important not to delay care, in order to have the best chance of preventing or controlling long-term negative health impacts. Call us at (505) 821-5992 to schedule an appointment.
