A cancer diagnosis is often accompanied by financial concerns, and at New Mexico Cancer Center, one of our most important priorities is to help ease our patients’ financial burdens. We offer support in a variety of ways based on each patient’s unique needs, and whether a patient has just received a diagnosis or they are already undergoing treatment, our financial counselors may be able to find a way to cover out-of-pocket costs.
We do our best to make sure that new patients are able to meet with a financial counselor during their first appointment so they understand all that we have to offer. Prior to this appointment, our counselors have reviewed the insurance plan(s) and coverage and they will be able to review benefit information with new patients so they understand their coverage and can address any issues prior to treatment/service. By meeting with patients during their first appointment, we can take care of any immediate financial concerns and begin applying for assistance immediately.
The NMCC Foundation is dedicated to helping our patients with their non-medical costs. Your financial counselor will let you know whether you might qualify for a grant from the Foundation, and will take care of starting the process of working with the Foundation.
There are also local and national organizations whose mission or charter involves helping people with cancer with different areas of their lives, and our financial counselors will explore all avenues possible to help our patients with the costs of seeking treatment. They will handle all of the paperwork and serve as an advocate for patients so they can focus on getting well.
We also understand that many patients seeking treatment may lack insurance or are under-insured, and our Financial Counselors can help patients file for State Disability Insurance, Supplemental Security Income, Medicaid or Medicare.

How much will my medical services cost?
The cost of your medical services will depend on the treatment and tests your physician feels are required to help diagnose and treat your individual condition. The financial counselors can review your treatment regimen and estimate your out-of-pocket expenses.
Will my insurance be billed?
Yes.We will be the insurance that is on file. We do need your help in informing us when you may have changes to your insurance. You are responsible for reporting any changes in your insurance or any other personal information such as change in address, phone number, name change, etc., We will bill your primary, secondary and tertiary insurance.
What are my responsibilities?
As a courtesy to you, we will file your insurance claims based on the information you provide to us. We will bill primary, secondary and tertiary insurances. Unfortunately there are times where we may not always be able to obtain prompt payment or payment in full, and we will request your assistance in expediting the claim and resolving any balances due.
What are my payment options?
We try our best to assist you in any way with your out-of-pocket costs when applicable through various foundations and patient assistance programs. In the event that we are unable to help with any financial assistance, we accept many payment options. These may include cash, personal check, money order, credit cards (Visa, Mastercard, Discover or American Express) and short-term payment options. Should you have any open balances, you may be asked to pay them prior to treatment.
Any necessary refunds will be processed in the form of a check, or if notified immediately, we will void the transaction.
