Advanced Breast Imaging
Advanced Estrogen Receptor PET Imaging for Breast Cancer
New Mexico Cancer Center is proud to be the first facility in New Mexico to offer advanced estrogen receptor (ER) PET imaging for eligible patients with recurrent or metastatic breast cancer. As the first facility in New Mexico to offer estrogen receptor PET imaging, we are expanding access to advanced breast cancer imaging so patients can receive comprehensive cancer care closer to home.
Now Available in New Mexico – Only at New Mexico Cancer Center
This specialized imaging study uses an FDA-approved radioactive diagnostic agent with PET imaging to help detect estrogen receptor-positive lesions throughout the body. The scan provides physicians with important information about estrogen receptor expression and is indicated as an adjunct to biopsy in patients with recurrent or metastatic breast cancer.
For many patients, this advanced imaging technology may provide a more complete picture of their disease while helping physicians make informed treatment decisions.

What Is Estrogen Receptor PET Imaging?
Estrogen receptor PET imaging is a specialized molecular imaging study that allows physicians to visualize estrogen receptor-positive disease throughout the body.
Unlike traditional imaging studies that primarily show the size and location of tumors, this advanced PET scan provides information about whether lesions express estrogen receptors, an important characteristic that can influence treatment planning for certain breast cancers.
The imaging study is performed using a radioactive diagnostic agent that binds to estrogen receptors, allowing them to be detected on PET imaging.
Who May Benefit from This Scan?
This imaging study may be appropriate for certain patients with:
- Recurrent breast cancer
- Metastatic breast cancer
- Estrogen receptor-positive breast cancer
- Suspected estrogen receptor-positive lesions
- Situations where additional information about estrogen receptor expression may help guide treatment decisions
Your oncologist will determine whether this imaging study is appropriate for your specific situation.
