What to Expect Before, During and After Your Exam
A CT scan takes detailed pictures of the inside of your body. The scan is painless and usually only takes a few minutes.
Some CT scans use contrast to make certain areas easier to see. If your exam requires contrast, we will explain what to expect before we begin.

WHAT IS A CT SCAN?
A Fast Way to See Inside Your Body
CT stands for computed tomography. It uses X-rays to take detailed pictures of the inside of your body.
A CT can show bones, organs, blood vessels and other tissues. Your doctor uses these images to learn more about what is happening inside your body and help guide your care.
The scan itself is quick and painless.
CT WITH OR WITHOUT CONTRAST
Will My CT Scan Use Contrast?
Some CT scans use contrast. Others do not. Your doctor will decide which type of scan you need.
CT Without Contrast
No contrast is used. You will not need an IV for the scan.
CT With Contrast
Contrast helps certain areas of your body show up more clearly in the images.
It may be given through an IV or, for some exams, by mouth.
If you are receiving IV contrast, we will ask you about your kidney health and allergies before your exam.

This is our CT machine. You will lie on the table while it moves into the opening in the center. Your technologist will be able to see and hear you throughout your exam.
