Sharing A New Book: Handbook of Hematologic Malignancies, Third Edition

I’m excited to share that the Handbook of Hematologic Malignancies, Third Edition has just been released. This project represents countless hours of collaboration, discussion, and refining to ensure it’s as practical and useful as possible for those on the frontlines of cancer care. As one of the co-editors alongside David Sallman, Hayder Saeed, and Ling Zhang, I hope that you find the new edition to be comprehensive yet easy to digest.

Here in New Mexico, and especially in the greater Albuquerque area, our patients often travel great distances for specialty care. That means when they arrive in our clinics, we need to make every moment count. One of my goals in working on this edition was to create a resource that would help clinicians—whether at a major cancer center, a regional hospital, or a community practice—quickly access the most up-to-date information on diagnosis, prognosis, and treatment.

Over 35 new FDA approvals have been added since the last edition, including groundbreaking therapies like CAR-T cells and bispecific antibodies. We’ve also added chapters on emerging areas that are changing how we approach care: precursor states in myeloid malignancies (CHIP/CCUS), inherited cancer risks, CAR-T vs. bispecific comparisons, and mechanisms of resistance. The new edition features updated WHO 2022 and ICC classifications, detailed figures, and board-style questions to keep you engaged and learning active.

In New Mexico, we understand the importance of having tools that can bridge the gap between cutting-edge science and real-world patient care, especially in areas where access to subspecialty resources can be limited. My hope is that this handbook which also includes online access will make it easier to navigate complex cases, guide treatment decisions, and spark important conversations across our multidisciplinary care teams.

Whether you’re in Albuquerque or caring for patients in rural New Mexico, I hope this book becomes a trusted companion in your practice.
