History of our Foundation
The New Mexico Cancer Center Foundation was formed in 2002 by the physicians of New Mexico Oncology Hematology Consultants, Ltd. (NMOHC) to help cancer patients beyond meeting just their medical needs. The physicians recognized that a cancer diagnosis, even with healthcare coverage, sometimes meant that people faced difficulties in maintaining a job and supporting their families. Insurance covers some of the medical expenses but co-pays and deductibles often take the family savings very quickly. The NMOHC financial counselors are here to help find sources for prescriptions and other medical assistance. Free support sessions are provided by the staff social worker to help with the emotional, psychological and spiritual needs of patients and their families. The Foundation helps to reduce the financial stress and improve the patient's quality of life by helping with living expenses such as rent, utilities, child care or transportation.
Education is a critical component for early diagnosis and cures. In 2008, The NMCCF became an accredited provider of Continuing Medical Education Programs to provide cutting-edge education on cancer diagnosis and treatment to health care providers so that all New Mexicans have improved outcomes.
The NMCCF is a registered 501 (c)(3) organization in good standing dedicated to helping patients in their battle with cancer. We provide financial assistance, education and help with any non-medical needs patients may have. Funds granted by the Foundation are NOT used for medical expenses, insurance co-payments or account payments at New Mexico Cancer Center/New Mexico Oncology Hematology Consultants, Ltd.
