About Us
The Foundation began in 2002 as the brainchild of Drs. Barbara McAneny and Clark Haskins. They saw that cancer was a disease that affected not just the physical body of the patient, but the entire household and the family's finances. Patients who could not afford the cost of gas or transportation to the center or a safe living environment fared worse than those that could. So to combat this disparity in care, the New Mexico Cancer Center Foundation was born.
One of the unique components of this Foundation's success is that the majority of administrative expenses are underwritten by the New Mexico Cancer Center. Thus, the Foundation is able to apply almost all monies earned to assist people with their day-to-day financial challenges during their cancer treatment.
We have an extraordinary group of volunteers who are willing to provide help and consultation to meet a wide range of needs for our cancer patients. Our advisory panels help with legal, educational, financial and other various needs of patients. Some volunteers assist patients and nursing staff while others work with fundraisers and administrative functions. We could not achieve the things we do on our budget without the help of such extraordinary individuals committed to making a difference in the lives of others. Find out more!
The Foundation continues to grow through a wide range of activities. Throughout the year, the Foundation develops medical education programs; manages the patient advocacy and assistance programs, implements the Gallery with a Cause and various fundraising and corporate/private giving programs.
The Foundation welcomes inquiries about getting involved in making a difference for cancer patients in our community. We are a hard-working, hands-on organization dedicated to improving the lives of people as they are battling cancer.
