I am a fourteenth-generation New Mexican artist from the heart of Northern New Mexico. I work professionally as a graphic artist focusing on digital and handmade collages of the New Mexican landscape. I live in the city of Albuquerque, New Mexico. Since being introduced to photography at the age of 14, I have been interested in capturing nature’s earth tone colors, seasons of change, and the sky’s various moods changing by the sunlight. I am influenced by the 20th century Dada art movement stylized in collage style.
I earned a Bachelor’s Degree of fine art in Photography and Graphic Design from New Mexico State University in 2010. From 2016-2018, I taught high school digital media classes in a bilingual format in the South Valley area of Albuquerque, NM. I also served as Director of Education for the Art Institute for Graphic Artists New Mexico chapter from 2014-2016, promoting student and professional creative events statewide.
Artist Statement
I am a mixed media artist who focuses on the perspective of color and texture in landscape and its relationship with the sky. I use recycled material and organic paper textures to create layers on top of layers to evoke a sense of space between the sky and the landscape. The placement of different colored layers plays with the composition of the landscape, and my art gives the feeling of various seasons of the colors that try to imitate the mood of the sky and earth. Using bright and bold colors in an abstracted layer format would be very simplistic and not complex to understand visually.
